Boitano's Perfect Figures: Scores USA-record 6.0's

DENVER: Brian Boiano made history Thursday night with perfect scores of 6.0 from eight of nine judges at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
The ninth judge rated him a 5.9.
The scores are a USA record. The three-time defending champion, who won the short program Thursday, is the overall leader entering Friday's final.
"I was hoping to get one (6.0)," Boitano said. "To see them up there all in a row was amazing."
In Ladies compulsories, Debi Thomas went from wimp to winner. Thomas, a former national and world champion, was criticized by her coach, Alex McGowan, who told her, "I don't want to see a wimp out there."
Thomas, 20, of Boulder, Colorado, obeyed and got results: Seven of nine judges placed her ahead of rivals Caryn Kadav and Jill Trenary.
The woman's competition continues Friday and th final will be televised Saturday.
Also Friday: Pairs short program, featuring 1987champions Peter Oppegard and Jill Watson.
